Talk to me about AA rechargeable batteries...

So the new digital camera uses 4AA batteries as opposed to a custom rechargeable I have been used to with Canons and Sonys. So I am looking into rechargeables.

This seems to be the highest rated on Amazon... $18 for 4 batteries and a charger.

But I'm surprised I'm not seeing any Lithium Ion options?

Anyone use rechargeable AA regularly?

they last WAYYYYYYY less than standard batteries before you have to recharge. I used to use them in my game controllers but found it was easier to use the energizer's for electronics and not have to worry about changing the batteries every week (that was even with them just sitting, not being used)

Ditto. The only thing I use rechargeable batteries in are my TV remotes.

You are going to note a shorter service life between charges, as noted.

If you're close to power, that's not a problem (but have a minimum of two sets. Best to mark cells you buy as a set, so you don't mix them up. This helps with overall service life.)

If you plan to be away from power for any length of time, I find that Energizer Titanium batteries work best in digital cameras.

I know this will come off as apple fan boy, but the ones from apple that come with 6 batteries and a charger are pretty damn good. Better than the eveready or whatever they were I had that were supposed to be for electronics.

Only charges 2 batteries at a time for double the price... It's an Apple all right.

The AA battery sitting on my desk is 2500mAh.. Not sure how high they go, but more than 2400mAh. I have seen some rechargeable batteries advertised as "designed for new electronic devices" like cameras and claim a much longer charge life. Funny, I always though all batteries were designed for electronic devices. Probably just a way of marketing higher mAh, which like miwico said really is the key.

Overall, rechargeables don't last as long as regular batteries, but they can be recharged. I use a lot of rechargeable batteries - kids stuff, wireless keyboard and mice, bluetooth earpiece, remote controls.. Cheaper than disposable batteries in the long run, but a single charge does not last as long as a regular battery and you can only charge them a certain number of times before they die.

I got this deal about six years ago, a few of them are just now going bad. I use the AAAs in the wife's little iPod speaker doobie and the AAs in my game controllers.

I have found the opposite to be true. If I'm using a high drain device, normal batteries last exponentially longer than rechargeables.
