Dryer Venting...

Newest problem... Mom was using a snake from outside the house to clear the dryer vent when it sounded like she disconnected something inside the wall. The dryer is no longer blowing out the vent.

This is what we're dealing with, it was the only wall in the basement I didn't tear down back when I renovated the basement when I bought the place in 2005.

I assume the vent goes straight up and the outside vent is somewhere around ceiling height.

Any way to do this without tearing down the wall?

Probably not going to be an easy fix for that. Probably best to just use one of the inside vent solutions:

Shop Lambro Indoor Hook-Up Dryer Vent Kit at Lowes.com
It's a gas dryer, can't vent those indoors... Carbon Monoxide...

Looks like we'll leave this one to the professionals. Home Warranty company says it's covered, a place is going to come Tuesday so will need to send some clothes out to the local laundry mat but will make do.

Unfortunately cutting the wall is easier said than done.

I'd be very surprised if the home warranty company covers any manner of drywall removal and replacement.

Yes an unfinished laundry room is going to hurt the value of the house... If anything currently having a non-working dryer vent is problem, fixing it will only help.

What do you care about the value of the house anyway? It is clear we can't convince you to move.

Anyway, looks like an easy fix. Your mom probably knocked it apart at the ceiling elbow. Cut open the drywall with a Sawzall, reattach duct, rivet, metal duct tape, and screw/mud the drywall section back in place. I don't see anything difficult with that as long as you have a Sawzall, rivet tool and 90-degree drill.

They will stick the vent back in the hole, empty a can of foam into the cavity and hope for the best. Five minutes and four bucks for the can-o-foam. :pirate:

Nobody residing at the residence is capable of doing that.
